For many organisations, especially small to medium sized businesses, working from home is a relatively new concept. Covid-19 is already being exploited by cyber criminals, who are using it as part of phishing campaigns. This means there is a greater need to ensure home working environments are secure, and that there is good security awareness among staff.
Suspicious activity currently includes fraudulent emails from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC). But you can find out more about these risks, and how cyber criminals are exploiting the Corona virus outbreak more broadly, from the NCSC website.
Samples of malicious emails can be found at the Trend Micro website.
The SANs Institute - one of the leading information security training and certification providers - have developed a Security Awareness Work-from-Home Deployment Kit. This toolkit contains reference material to help raise awareness of the risks when working from home and has guidance to help you develop secure remote working capabilities.
The free kit can be accessed by visiting https://www.sans.org/security-awareness-training.
