The DPP has today revealed that its next major research project, Going Live & Remote, will be an exploration of the recent explosion in the creation of live content by distributed work teams.
Going Live & Remote will take the form of a series of three special reports and webcasts - each the product of bespoke research.
“Three of the most important recent developments in media are the growth of live content making, cloud-based production and cloud-based distribution – with companies often adopting all of them together,” said DPP CEO, Mark Harrison, “This research will identify the latest best practices and business opportunities that will benefit content creation companies and their suppliers.”
The DPP’s research will break the work down into three areas:
- Live Remote Production - will explore the realities and best practice in creating a live production remotely – both for low cost and premium events. It will make a maturity assessment, and identify remaining challenges and areas for further development.
- The Business of Live - will explore the market for live content – from live streamed sport to esports and special events on games platforms. It will ask: why is live content so popular? How is the market developing? And what are the prevailing business models?
- Working Live - will explore the characteristics of an ever-changing live working environment. It will look at the skills and talents required to successfully implement live workflows, the opportunities for greater diversity and inclusion, and the best way to effectively manage teams and resources.
Going Live & Remote is sponsored by a number of skilled partners that will support the DPP across the project. Each sponsor is an active participant in one or more areas of work that best represents their area of expertise. Sponsoring organisations include:
- Lead Sponsor: Atos
- Expert Sponsors: Ross Video (Live Remote Production), and Zixi (Working Live)
- Contributing Sponsors: Kiswe (Live Remote Production), Telstra (Live Remote Production), Wildmoka (The Business of Live)
The research will also be supported by numerous other specialist organisations within the DPP membership - ensuring the quality and depth of insight that characterises all DPP work.
“Accelerated by the pandemic, remote live production has never been more essential for linking people and communities worldwide. It is creating new opportunities for media & entertainment organisations: 67% of media companies, for example, are now investing more in virtualisation technologies.” Said Jean-Philippe Poirault, Global Head of Telecom, Media, Technology Industry at Atos, “We are delighted to be the lead sponsor of this programme and look forward to demonstrating our strong broadcast and media expertise. We’re committed to helping organisations develop innovative, sustainable solutions to thrive in this climate of digital and social disruption.”
The first report in the Going Live & Remote series, Live Remote Production, will be published in April, followed immediately by a webcast to discuss the findings. The other reports and events will follow in May and June. Access to the reports and events will be for DPP members via the DPP website.
