The DPP has published its popular report on the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Enabled by DPP member companies Dell Technologies and Dalet, CES 2022: What consumer trends mean for the media industry unwraps the trends from this year’s exhibition and compares them against 13 years of previous CES analysis. The report also provides individual market updates on 25 consumer technologies.
While there was significant marketing devoted to - and often mis-representing - the metaverse, many of the biggest companies made bold statements about sustainability and cleaning up the tech supply chain.
“Environmental sustainability has been the theme waiting to happen at CES for over a decade,” says DPP CEO Mark Harrison, the report author. “In 2021, several major companies foregrounded their commitment to be carbon neutral. But this year, a major shift took place. Companies admitted how much they contribute to global warming and how manufacturing and supply chain processes had to change if emissions are to be reduced.”
Another key trend is how deep into the cloud consumers have now gone through their devices, which have become the window to an ecosystem of digital services.
“We’re all digital natives now,” says Harrison. “More and more consumers are buying and managing goods and services online, and thus becoming heavy users of the cloud.”
