The DPP European Broadcaster Summit is returning to Berlin from 29-30 March 2023 following a successful inaugural event in 2022. The European Broadcast Summit 2023 will bring together executives representing more than a dozen of the continent’s leading media companies to discuss key messages, challenges and opportunities with the technology supplier ecosystem.
The European Broadcaster Summit is an invitation only event for DPP members. The distinctive workshop format is designed to promote collaboration between European broadcasters, and facilitate understanding and dialogue between the media companies and partner organisations.
Together, the broadcasters and tech providers will engage in high value conversations - facilitated by the DPP - that promote understanding and help tackle the industry’s biggest challenges.
Participating broadcasters will first engage in closed workshops covering six key topics. The European broadcasters will develop key messages to deliver to the supplier community. Having delivered those messages, the broadcasters will be joined by the suppliers in group workshops to produce a series of Key Design Principles for each of the six topics.
The contributing broadcasters include Bauer, BBC, ITV, Newen, NRK, RTÉ, RTL Nederland, RTVE, RUV, SVT, TG 4, TV2 Denmark, UKTV, Yle and ZDF - representing Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Further participating broadcasters will be announced.
The six topics to be covered are:
- The IP production strategy we really need
What is the appropriate approach to contribution and production when money is tight, we have competing IP video protocols, and 5G is becoming widely available?
- Driving value from metadata
What does it take to get ROI from metadata?
- Optimising technical resources
What is best done in-house – and what is best outsourced?
- Cloud priorities
What do we need the cloud to enable right now?
- Making use of AI
How can AI deliver efficiency now?
- Organisational efficiency
How is effective organisational alignment achieved in practice?
DPP CEO Mark Harrison said the European Broadcaster Summit will build on the success of the inaugural 2022 edition.
"The first European Broadcaster Summit provided an environment for peer to peer exchange between major European media companies; who took the product of those exchanges into a discussion with the wider community," Mark said.
"For a second year, the agenda has been co-created with significant input from European broadcasters. As the hosts, we look forward to bringing together so many organisations and facilitating this exchange between media companies and their suppliers which we hope will be of benefit to all DPP members."

Attendees in 2022 said the European Broadcaster Summit was an "amazing" event, creating significant value and a common understanding of future roadmaps between media companies and suppliers.
