The DPP, the media industry’s business network, has today published Supply Chain Today: The Key Insights. This report summarises 45 insights that came from our 15 sessions at the DPP Media Supply Festival 2023 in New York. The annual event takes the temperature on the strategies and technologies that are powering the content supply chain. The report was co-created with companies from both the customer and vendor communities at an interactive workshop which closed the event.
Supply Chain Today: The Key Insights further condenses the insights to the ones the workshop attendees considered of greatest significance for the media industry. They can be grouped into four overarching themes; Design, Organisational Alignment, AI, and Change.
“The last 12 months have brought significant development of supply chain technologies and processes,” says DPP CTO Rowan de Pomerai, the event lead. “Composable architecture is now a reality rather than an aspiration, as we see customers building supply chains from a series of best of breed solutions.”
Contributors to the report agreed that there is a new focus on optimising core business processes, rather than technology. Driving efficiency in historic business lines has become essential to enable investments in emerging digital businesses.
It was also revealed that there has been greater alignment between the business, technical, and financial parts of media organisations in the last 12 months. And with that comes more conversations about what is required for successful business change: planning slow to deliver fast.
With such focus on business effectiveness and the bottom line, it was also notable to find so much enthusiasm for the latest advances in generative AI. Both the speakers and audience insisted on this technology being foundational rather than controversial, with a great deal of excitement about how it will enable creative processes in the future.
Companies that participated in the workshop were A+E Networks EMEA, Amazon, AMC Networks, Axinom, BBC, Blackbird, Clipsource, Cognizant, Dalet, Devoncroft Partners, Disney, Embrace, Emotion Systems, Extreme Reach, Flomenco, Harmonic, ITV, Knox Media Hub, LucidLink, Marquis Broadcast, Mediagenix, MediaWR, NorthSouth Productions, NTT Data, Overcast, PBS, Perspective Media Group, Prime Focus Technologies, Prime Image, RSG Media, SDVI, Signiant, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Three Media, U.S. Library of Congress, Venera Technologies, Vubiquity, and ZDF Studios.
