The DPP, the media industry’s international community, has today published a unique market assessment from April’s NAB show.
The report examines how well suppliers are meeting customer demands in five key focus areas identified by DPP member companies as important for the industry. It then assigns a score to maturity of the supplier offer in each of those five areas.
“Executives from the customer community are constantly sharing their strategic needs at DPP events,” says David Thompson, DPP Technology Strategist, and author of the report. “So it invites the question: are suppliers listening, and responding? That’s what I went to NAB to find out. The results were fascinating.”
The five areas of strong customer need explored by the report are:
AI assisted localisation
Simplifying FAST
Live cloud production
5G and wireless production,
Tracking complex workflows.
The DPP is able to report that, overall, suppliers are working hard to solve their customer’s real problems, and are increasingly focused on efficiency. This is especially true in more mature technology areas such as AI and FAST.
Live and wireless production is seeing significant activity, but challenges still remain around reliability and readiness for tier one live events. Some customers see 5G as a potential game change; but the technology is still nascent.
“The DPP spent time with a huge number of customers and vendors in making this unique assessment, and it is something we are committed to doing more in the future,” says Thompson, “There is enormous value in connecting the dots of supply and demand - and it is something we are uniquely placed to do.”
The DPP will be undertaking a similar piece of analysis for the benefit of its member companies at IBC 2023.
