The DPP has today published a summary of its Tech Leaders’ Briefing event for 2020. Senior executives from 30 major media companies each shared their three strategic priorities. Together, these key messages build into a unique picture of the business direction being set by leading decision makers. This picture is presented in the DPP Tech Leaders’ Briefing 2020 summary report.
“The purpose of the DPP Tech Leaders’ Briefing is to generate more focused business intelligence than any other industry event,” says DPP CEO Mark Harrison, “And this year didn’t disappoint. The event has become a barometer for the state of the industry, and this year the pressure was high, and the temperature hot. There was a real insistence in the messages shared by these senior leaders.”
Participating companies this year were ViacomCBS, CBC Radio-Canada, PBS, Fox Corporation, Google Cloud, BBC, ITV, UKTV, Channel 4, News Corp, Reuters, ITN, Eurosport, IMG Studios, DreamHack Sports Games, BT Sport, ZDF, Al Jazeera, A+E EMEA, SVT, RTE, RTL Nederland, Sky, Vice Media Group, BuzzFeed, Facebook, WarnerMedia, Sinclair Broadcast Group, A+E Networks and Discovery.
The most prominent themes this year were around business and workforce transformation. There were some particularly powerful messages presented by several speakers around the need to move beyond broadcast-centred thinking, the importance of building fully integrated operations, and the urgency of creating diverse and inclusive workforces. There were also powerful messages around the need to re-set relationships between customers and suppliers.
“This was a very action-orientated group of senior executives,” adds Mark Harrison. “It was clear that, for them, 2021 must be a year of doing. And they only want to work with companies that understand their business goals.”
The DPP has just completed its work plan for 2021, and has several initiatives focused on supporting industry change.
